Riga Secondary School №25 continues to actively participate in the “Maths Everywhere” project organized by Erasmus+. Second meeting of the member states was scheduled to take place in Latvia but had to be cancelled due to COVID-19. After careful consideration by the participants, it was decided to continue the project remotely. The first meeting was held in October – the member states discussed the sudden change of plans and further agenda of the meetings. A Kahoot quiz was organized on the 23rd of November expanding the students’ knowledge about the member states.
The quiz was organized by Tālivaldis Mežis, a teacher representing the Latvian team. Every country prepared 5 questions that included well-known facts about them, landmarks, and mathematical questions. 100 students participated in the activity and 4 students representing Latvia achieved very high results placing them among the top ten contestants.
December began with an intense preparation for two meetings involving all students divided in international teams that consisted with a representative from every country. The meeting took place on 16th and 17th of December with students discussing the EURO STOXX 50 index. Both meetings were very productive – led by teachers from all participating countries, students created presentations about the market and global finance to be published on “e-Twinning”.
Further work on the project was continued individually. Each student was assigned 100000 euro for purchasing and selling stocks from a virtual market. Many transactions were completed every week – students had a large but very rewarding workload. The activity was finished on the 29th of January and there are more to come.
We would like to thank all the member states for their active engagement in the project and we sincerely hope to meet our friends from Spain, Italy, Greece, and Turkey face to face!
